T20 World Cup 2021: Ishan Kishan continued from where he left in IPL 2021 as the left-hander batsman, who opened the innings, smashed a 46-ball 70 against England in India’s first warm-up match in Dubai on Monday.

- Virat Kohli said on Monday that Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul will open for India
Former India wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel said it’s unfair to fiddle with the batting order for the T20 World Cup just because Ishan Kishan was in good form at the top of the order in India’s first warm-up match.
Parthiv Patel said Ishan Kishan’s showcasing fine form with the bat as an opener in India’s 7-wicket win over England in their warm-up match is a great sign for the team but the young wicketkeeper-batsman should remain as the back-up opener.
Ishan Kishan opened alongside KL Rahul for India in the warm-up match against England in Dubai on Monday as Rohit Sharma was rested. Ishan grabbed the opportunity and hit a 46-ball 70, smashing 3 sixes and 7 boundaries before he was retired.
Ishan was struggling for form in the first half of the UAE leg of IPL 2021 but the Mumbai Indians star found form towards the latter stages, silencing his critics who had questioned his place in the side.
After his swashbuckling knock on Monday, there were calls to consider Ishan Kishan in the batting order when India face Pakistan in their opener but Parthiv Patel believes it’s unfair to both the player and the team to find a spot for him if Rohit and Rahul are going to open.
It’s clear Ishan Kishan is India’s 3rd opener: Patel
“No, I don’t think we should try and slot him somewhere just because he is in great form. I think it’s a great sign for India. He is your back-up opener,” Patel told Star Sports.
“Virat Kohli will bat at No. 3. Before the tournament started, in fact, before the IPL started, Virat wanted to open as well. But now it is clear that Ishan Kishan is your third opener and he will remain that way. Just because he is in good form, you don’t want to spoil the batting order as well.
“Suryakumar will bat at No. 4, Rishabh pant and Hardik Pandya at No. 5 and 6. But Ishan Kishan is a good sign for us, the way he is batting as an opener,” he added.
Notably, Virat Kohli on Monday confirmed that Rohit and Rahul will open for India while he will bat at No. 3. Rahul continued from where he left in IPL 2021, hitting a 24-ball 51 against England.
