‘Meta’ branding start showing WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, FB apps

WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, and other Facebook apps have started showing the company’s new ‘Meta’ branding on both Android and iOS devices. The update comes a week after Facebook announced it was changing its company name to Meta.

The name change aims to go beyond traditional social media and better reflect the company’s ongoing investments towards an immersive experience called ‘Metaverse’. Along with Facebook, Microsoft and other tech companies are moving toward developing their own Metaverse-focused offerings.

California-based company Menlo Park, however, wants to take advantage of the first mover with its rebranding.

First seen in recent beta versions of WhatsApp for Android and iOS last week, meta branding has started appearing on the splash screens of the latest versions of WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, and Facebook apps.

The change comes as a result of Disclaimer that Facebook created last week to go along with the meta title.

It is not clear whether any changes are coming to the Facebook apps as a result of the rebranding.

Meta – Facebook started showing its native branding on WhatsApp and Instagram apps

In 2019, Facebook start showing its native branding on WhatsApp and Instagram apps. The move was to expose his ownership of the two platforms.

Last week, WhatsApp head Will Cathcart announce the deployment of new branding on the instant messaging app. The executive said the update is about recognizing the fact that WhatsApp’s parent company is “no more than just Facebook.”

“This new name will make it easier for us to explain that you may share a status you post to your friends on Facebook (the app), use payment functionality provided by (the company), or use such a service.” This can be invented, Cathcart said.

After months of working on developing augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) experiences. Facebook decided to go with the new name.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a public letter that it will be about the metaverse. It is where people will be able to interact with each other virtually in a pervasive way across the Internet.

However, he did not specify what we can expect from the company in the coming future.
